KINGLING BRAND LAUNCHED TO HELP STRENGTHEN TOKAJ PDO WINES

The non-profit company of the Tokaj Wine Region’s Council of Wine Communities, which is in charge of the Community Winemaking Infrastructure Project, now also manages the Kingling brand, introduced for wines that do not comply with the quality and style requirements of the Tokaj 'brand'. Today, such wines are normally sold bulk or released under the producers' second label at a reduced price, which can potentially harm the reputation and market position of top Tokajis. Regional wineries can now choose to sell such wines for the Kingling brand that is not a Tokaji PDO, but the Zempléni PGI wine category. Government-owned Grand Tokaj was the first to take the opportunity, so the new brand is being launched with a dry wine and a semi-sweet lot purchased from them.
