Alba imputotato is the name of the obscure grape variety that has been identified as the second, missing parent of Furmint, the Tokaj region's leading cultivar. The genetically-proven discovery was announced by Dr Zoltán Bihari, head of the regional Research Institute for Viticulture and Oenology (TRIVO), at a conference on 24th February in Tarcal. It has been known since the 2012 publication of Wine Grapes, a book co-authored by renowned Swiss grape geneticist José Vouillamoz, that DNA analysis shows a parent-offspring relationship between Furmint and Gouais Blanc, however, Furmint's other parent has until now remained a mystery.
