Continuing a tradition started last year, Amici Vinorum Olaszliszka organised a pruning contest in a vineyard on the outskirts of their home village on 5th March. The 12 entrants were tasked to prune 50 vines both within the shortest possible time and to the highest possible quality and accuracy. Natasa Pribér from Dereszla Winery and Tolcsva-based winemaker István Czemiczki won the title Best Pruner of the Year 2016 in the women's and the men's categories, respectively.
Amici Vinorum Olaszliszka (Latin for Olaszliszka Friends of Wine) is a very active local NGO, established in the summer of 2013 by ten quality-committed local vintners with a view to strengthening Olaszliszka’s identity as one of the region’s longest-established historical wine towns. Central to their joint efforts is an Olaszliszka-labelled Hárslevelű wine that they make every year, using grapes from members of the association.
