Tokaji wines have received 29 awards at this year’s VinAgora Wine Competition including two Champion prizes, the winners of which were announced at the 28th June VineAgora Wine Gala at Hotel Boscolo Budapest with all the 579 wines entered for the competition being available for tasting at a very reasonable ticket price.
The Champion awards went to a 2007 6p Aszú of the Puklus family from Bodrogkeresztúr and Tokajicum’s late harvest style Reneszánsz Cuvée from Tarcal, while Erdőbénye-based Bardon’s dry Omega was not only found worthy of a gold medal, but also took home the Best Furmint Varietal Award.
The ratio of dry/off-dry to sweet Tokaji was 13 to 15, with 9 out of the 13 gold medals being awarded to sweet wines and 4 out of the 13 silvers to dry and off-dry ones. Tokaj's 28 winning entries came from 17 producers.
VinAgora is one of Hungary’s two most important wine competitions and a truly international event, having attracted entries from 19 countries including Australia, France, Germany and Spain this year.
